Museum of Marrakech

This museum is housed in the Dar Menebhi Palace. The palace built in the 19th century was carefully restored and converted into a museum in 1997. The museum holds exhibits of both modern and traditional Morrocan art together with art objects of the Morrocan Jewish, Berber and Arab cultures.

Almoravid Koubba

Almoravid Koubba is situated next to the Museum of Marrakech and is the oldest building in Marrakech and the only Almoravid building remaining in Morocco. The interior is richly decorated with floral patterns and calligraphy.

Medersa Ben Youssef

Close to the tanneries you can find Medersa Ben Youssef. It’s a restored Koranschool with in the center a beautifully peacefull patio. The building dates from the 14th century and has a breathtaking architecture. It’s also one of the few religious Islamitic buildings you can visit as non-muslim.

Tanneries

The tanneries of Marrakech are still doing the leather treatment in a traditionally way. They are softening the leather in big round concrete vessels. In fact they are doing the first treatment of the leather before it’s going to those who are making the finished leather products.

Citywalls and gates

These massive, impressive pink citywalls give the magical athmosphere of Marrakech. These were build in the 12th century to protect the city against hostel attacks. Along the citywalls you can find beautiful decorated entry gates, they are all one of kind and have a function of their own.
